General:
Q.) How difficult are your stalls to set up?
A.) Easy, once you have your posts and lumber walls in place, Armour stall components are shipped to you assembled with an installation manual and 800 toll free number for installation assistance. On average two men can set up a front door and grille in 30 minutes or less. Level track, insert trolley, fasten latch and stay roller, approximately 6-10 lags for the grille installation and you’re done!
Q.) Do I need a contractor?
A.) You do not need a contractor. We provide components for contractors as well as “do-it-yourselfers” and Armour will assist in the installation of its products every step of the way.
Q.) What does “assembled” mean?
A.) The doors and grilles arrive with all the bars welded, lumber installed (when specified) and the best heavy duty hardware is included.
Q.) Do I need posts?
A.) Yes and No. You will need to have a post at each corner of the stall. We recommend a 6” x 6” lumber post to keep your cost per stall down. If you prefer aluminum posts we supply those upon request. Additionally, you will need to provide a post or two posts for the doorway. One if the door is off to one end of the stall front and two if the door is centered.
Q.) What if I don’t have stall posts?
A.) Armour can provide each corner post & door posts upon request, please note a concrete footer or floor must be present.
Q.) I want to buy the whole stall front, what do I need?
A.) We manufacture and sell each component separate, your stall front consists of a sliding door or hinged gate, stall front grille with or without feeder access door, receiver channel to slide the lumber wall into, header channels to mount the front grille and door track, and posts. You may provide the lumber end posts, door post and stall front wall and only require a door and front grille. Give us a call we’ll explain how to save you money.
Q.) What Armour Components do I need to construct a 10’ x 10’ stall?
A.) One stall door, you choose! The hardware is included in the price of the stall doors, as we know you can’t hang the doors without the hardware, so our philosophy is: Why sell them separate? Choose a sliding stall door here OR a hinged gate here.
Once you have your posts in place measure the distance between the post and send the measurement, we’ll make it for you at no additional cost! Prefer a standard size? Try one of our 5’0”, 5’1”, 5’3”, or 5’6” grilles. Choose one here. Don’t forget your Feeder Access Door, we will manufacture it into your grille. Just tell us you want a F.A.D. Choose a grille with a F.A.D. here.
If you would like to insert your stall lumber into “u” channel (receiver channel) please use this formula: Solid 8’ high lumber stall walls require 4 “u” channels or two sets. Half grilled stall walls require 2 “u” channels or one set and the divider grille (order below). Order receiver “u” channels here. If you can’t figure it out, or don’t want to figure it out, give us a call and let us do the figuring!
If you want a half grilled divider wall, choose only two receiver channel (for below the grille) and the length grille required. We make them standard in any 6” increment or to the nearest 1/8” upon request for no additional cost. Order divider grilles here.
Unlike other companies that will try to sell you a wall stiffener, we’ll tell you, you can use a 1” x 4” lumber board and run it vertically down the center of a stall wall, it is used to strengthen up the wall and keep boards from curving. If you are interested in purchasing one in aluminum, we’d be happy to provide it for you. Choose a Wall Stiffener here.
Q.) What Armour Components do I need to construct a 12’ x 12’ stall?
A.) One stall door, you choose! The hardware is included in the price of the stall doors, as we know you can’t hang the doors without the hardware, so our philosophy is: Why sell them separate? Choose a sliding stall door here OR a hinged gate here.
Once you have your posts in place measure the distance between the post and send the measurement, we’ll make it for you at no additional cost! Prefer a standard size? Try one of our 7’0”, 7’1”, 7’3”, or 7’6” grilles. Choose one here. Don’t forget your Feeder Access Door, we will manufacture it into your grille. Just tell us you want a F.A.D. Choose a grille with a F.A.D. here.

Q.) How do I know what lumber to buy?
A.) You will need a 6” x 6” post at each corner of the stall and an additional post for the doorway. Keep in mind adjoining stalls share common posts, so you don’t need to double up on them! Then for each 4’0” high stall wall you will need to calculate nine 2” x 6” boards to achieve your 4’0” height. Likewise if you need to achieve an 8’0” high wall you will need eighteen 2” x 6” boards. The lumber length is determined by the length of the wall you want to achieve. Lumber is sold usually in 8’0”, 10’0”, 12’0” sometimes 14’0” or over is a special order. Special orders can be placed at Home Depot or Lowes. If you have questions please call one of our knowledgeable staff at 800-876-7706.
Divider Grilles:
Q.) What is a stall divider, divider grille or divider partition?
A.) Armour defines the wall between two stalls, a stall divider. The stall divider can be solid lumber installed into “u” channels or what Armour calls receiver channels. Or a stall divider can have a divider grille, which is the section of bars that sits above the lower dividing partition wall. The lower dividing partition wall can be constructed also using “u” channels/receiver channels. You do not need receiver channel were you intend to put up a stall divider grille. You will need a header board above the stall divider grille, you can purchase short header receiver channels for the installation of this board. Header Receiver Channels are available in 5.5” or 7.5”.
Renovation:
Q.) What do I do if I am renovating an old barn?
A.) Send us a sketch of they layout you have with what existing size posts you have or what size openings you are trying to fill and we will explain how to achieve attractive non rusting stalls that are custom made to fit your openings. Don’t want custom, we’ll tell you how to fit the standard product size in!
Q.) Do you make custom grilles to fit my existing barn?
A.) Yes, we can accommodate any size grille you require, send us your measurements! We are affordable, so don’t be scared to inquire… we’ll surprise you!
Stall Fronts:
Q.) Do you make custom stall front grilles, divider grilles and window grilles?
A.) YES! Armour understands, not everyone builds a 12 x12 stall or a 10 x 10 stall. Armour also understands sometimes a 12’ stall isn’t 12’ square. So we manufacture our grille products to fit your individual situation. Give us a call or send us a size request. 800-876-7706 or info@armourgates.com
Q.) What is a F.A.D. Feeder Access Door?
A.) A Feeder Access Door or F.A.D. is a hinge-less, latch-less feed opening 2’0” wide and the full height of the grille you order. We recommend if your stall door is off to one end of the stall front, put the Feeder Access Door on the opposing corner or opposite end of the stall front. If your stall door is centered, then you may want to put the Feeder Access Door on the right end of the grille on the right, or the left end of the grille on the left. (The side is based on standing outside the stall in facing the front of the stall.)
800-876-7706.
Q.) Do you offer different style stall fronts?
A.) Yes, we off different stall fronts, that is why each component is sold separately. For example doors are separate from grille lengths. A minor change in style to the stall front can be made by choosing a stall door with one of our various aluminum or lumber combinations. An elaborate and stylish stall front can be constructed using Armour’s Emissary Stalls or Story Panel Stall Fronts. Click to view them now.
Foaling Stalls:
Q.) I would like to have a larger stall for foaling. Can I take out a panel and make a "foaling stall"?
A.) When you use the receiver channel or “u” channels between two stalls, you can easily slide the lumber out of the channel and convert one standard stall to a larger foaling stall. If you intend to build a stall for future foaling situations, using a grille above the lumber divider wall, you can remove the grille to enlarge the stall by dismantling 8-12 wood lags and removing the two piece grille. Grilles over 8’0” in length arrive in two pieces for easier installation and dismantling.
End Barn Doors:
Q.) Do you have “end of the barn” doors or overhead doors?
A.) We manufacture sliding end barn door frames, two per opening or connect them to make one sliding door panel. The frames are made so you can install your own 2” x 6” tongue and groove lumber, once the track in leveled and the frames are hung. The advantage to using the frame is you can replace the lumber, if a board starts to look unappealing. Additional advantages are low shipping cost and easy labor to install, since multi-man crews are unnecessary.
Dutch Doors:
Q.) What is a Dutch Door?
A.) A Dutch Door is a hinged door in which the top and bottom open independently from one another. They are typically used in the back of a horses stall to allow the equine to hang their head out or to encourage airflow into a stall.
Q.) Can Dutch Doors be used for tack and feed room doors?
A.) You can use Dutch Door for tack and feed, you might also try one of our Double Dutch Not Split Doors, as they look like a Dutch door, but they are not split in the center. The non split door, has only one latch/handle and is sometimes preferred over the double latching door. Please be advised these doors do not have a locking mechanism, they only latch.
